A couple of weeks ago, the lovely people at Boxgreen kindly let me choose 4 different flavours of snacks from their entire range of healthy goodies and sent them to me in the cutest box ever. Being the really excited, wannabe influencer/ health nut that I am, I decided to share the love and write a review on what I think about the snacks and of course, the service!
Boxgreen is an online snack company that sells snacks (duh) and is best known for their subscription service. You can choose from over 50 varieties of snacks and have them sent to your doorstep either once a week, every 2 weeks, every month or every 2 months, changing the snacks in each box. I’ve actually ordered from them before and you can view that review here, but since then, I’ve noticed they’ve increased their range of snacks and everything on their site looks amazing! So I picked out 4 different flavours and here’s the verdict.
On a general note, I really enjoyed these snacks and gobbled them up fairly quickly; in particular, the shiitake mushroom chips and sweet potato crisps. I also really love the way they package the subscription boxes! So much thought must have been put into its curation. Each box comes with 4 different flavours, customisable upon order, with 12 portion controlled packs (3 of each flavour). Each packet has the nutritional information printed on the back and a card with the nutritional info of each snack that is also compiled and printed just for you! There’s nothing quite like opening a box with a greeting card (it had my name on it!) and well-packaged goodies, they definitely didn’t skimp on the aesthetics! I felt incredibly spoilt.
For the snacks itself, I must say that the seasonings are a little too heavy for my personal liking. I’m a pretty clean eater (or at least I try to be lol) and try to abstain from snacks with sugar or too much sodium. I had a hard time trying to find completely sugar-free (including sugar substitutes, e.g honey) snacks that seemed interesting and tasty. While they are definitely much healthy than the Ruffles potato chips we all try so hard to abstain from, don’t expect completely clean and green snacks because you can’t really find those at Boxgreen. Most of their snacks are flavoured and will never be as nutritious for you as compared to fresh fruits and vegetables.
Shiitake Mushroom Chips
I’ve never once thought mushrooms could look ‘cute’. Neither did I ever think that of chips. Somehow, however, when the two are crossed, that’s the only way I know how to describe it. These shiitake mushroom chips were my top pick from all 4 snacks. They’re really tasty, with a savoury initial taste and a slightly sweet aftertaste. Being a real lover of texture in my food, this definitely passed the ‘crunch test’ as the initial bite just releases the satisfying crunchy texture of a good snack. They’re not dense or crispy per say, but rather provide an almost fluffy, airy feeling. I would highly recommend it if you’re placing an order!
Sweet Potato Crisps
These little purple and orange chips were actually sold out on the site when I first chose my flavours. Leah, the lovely person who I was liaising with, however, told me they were coming back in stock and she could post out the box once they were. I can see why they’re so popular because these are so addictive! Thank God they’re individually packaged otherwise I wouldn’t be able to stop. These crisps have a much sturdier crunch than the shiitake mushrooms. They’re a little bit harder to bite into, but is packed full of flavour all the same. it’s naturally sweet because it is, after all, sweet potato, but also has a savoury taste because of the seasoning. I could snack on these all day!
Peanut Pretzel Muddy Bites
I love pretzels, I really do. Salted pretzels in caramel ice-cream or dipped in dark chocolate, YUM. I was really excited for this flavour just because I’m such a big fan of pretzels and wanted to see what it would taste like. This has little to no seasoning which is great, but I also felt like it was a little boring compared to the rest. Granted, the dark chocolate buttons are fun to nibble on, but I also didn’t care very much for the cashews and nuts. I would personally prefer to buy my own bag of pretzels!
I’m not quite sure how to describe the taste of these tortilla chips, though they do taste very familiar. I’m not a fan of corn chips, so I was relieved when these came and they were normal flour tortilla chips! The seasoning on this was just right, a tasty barbeque flavour which isn’t too overpowering. I do think it’s possible to get a similar snack elsewhere though, so maybe try a different flavour if you’re placing an order!
Overall, I think Boxgreen subscription service is great for people who are always on the go and want to keep a snack in their handbags. I found myself reaching for it most when I was rushing to and fro school or work and needed something to munch on before my meals. Being pre-packed, I didn’t have to worry about portion control or feel guilty about over-indulging because I knew exactly what ingredients were inside it and the number of calories. If you’re a real health nut, on the hunt for some good snacks, this is probably right up your alley and you should give it a try!
Now that Christmas is coming and the gifting season is just round the corner, this would also be the perfect gift for a friend who’s really in the health game. Boxgreen is even having a promotion now if you order more boxes and there’s a limited edition (super cute!) box just for the festive season! #notsponsored
As though that doesn’t already make you want to place an order, Boxgreen kindly provided me with a discount code for 20% off your next 3 subscription boxes! Just use the discount code ‘JOYANN’ at checkout to redeem it. If you’re placing an order, do let me know how it goes and if you like it! Happy snacking x.
